Community sonographers: trusted and affordable alternatives to crisis pregnancy centers

The Community Ultrasound Program (CUSP) offers training, equipment, and ongoing support for doulas, community navigators, reproductive justice advocates, and clinicians.

We train community sonographers to give information about early pregnancy in under-served regions.

Our Goal

People considering or seeking abortion services have information to make decisions about pregnancy options — without coercion or bias.

Our Why

Some people using abortion pills wonder whether they need ultrasound for confirmation of pregnancy duration or reassurance before or after a medication abortion. They deserve information from trusted sources in their community.

Reassurance

In the US, anti-abortion centers outnumber abortion clinics about 5:1. Many of these centers provide coercive counseling, misleading information about abortion safety, and/or inaccurate information about ultrasounds. We are different.

Trust

Access

Too many communities, particular in rural America, don’t have adequate early pregnancy care in the formal health care system.

There is a clear need for local access to information about early pregnancy, so people can make informed decisions.

What We Do

We offer an alternative to anti-abortion pregnancy resource centers (crisis pregnancy centers/CPCs).

We help people in low-resource communities build skills to offer key information about pregnancy.

⚲ We do not train certified medical technicians. Our work is focused on delivering accurate and unbiased information about pregnancy — not diagnostic ultrasounds.
